Prime Minister Koizumi thereafter hosted a dinner for President Obasanjo.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi, having met with President Obasanjo immediately after taking office on May 22, 2001, commented, “Mr. President, you are the last foreign leader that I will meet during my office. Maybe it was fate.” President Obasanjo responded, “That is why I have come to visit you.”
