NEPAD promotes African media skills by training the trainers

    The NEPAD communication unit, in conjunction with the German Technical Co-operation Agency (GTZ) and Deutsche Welle TV Training Centre, has convened a training program titled “Train the Trainer”.


    The two-week training course will held in Brazzaville, Congo, from 4-15 December 2006 for journalists from Burundi, Chad, Congo, DRC, Gabon and Rwanda.

    The objectives of the training are:
    – To create an understanding of the potential and importance of training to increase the quality and effectiveness of media organisations in the light of growing international competition and technical innovation.

    – To develop a vision on the organisational and managerial skills needed to enable media organisations to reap full benefit from their training activities as well as ideas on how this can be achieved.

    – To impart the electronic media and production skills in radio and television needed for the development and implementation of training activities.

    – To develop skills and techniques for the identification of training needs among existing staff groups, including technical staff, journalists, program-makers, and managers.

    – To develop the skills needed for the design, organisation, supervision, evaluation and delivery of training activities.

    The course contents include:
    – Identification of training needs
    – Defining learning objectives
    – Design of course concepts based on learning objectives
    – Use of methods and media
    – Communications skills
    – Analytical skills
    – Evaluation techniques and feedback.
